When you shop at the iHeartDogs store, part of the profit goes to Greater Good Charities, an organization that supports animals in need. Greater Good Charities’ GOODS Program donates meals and other essential supplies to shelters and rescues. These donations help both dogs and dog parents.
The GOODS Program’s donations are typically given to dogs at the shelter that are waiting to be adopted, but some organizations use the products in other ways too. The Humane Society of Carroll County in Westminster, MD, sometimes uses these donations to support pet parents in the community.
When families fall on hard times, it can be difficult for them to earn enough money to support themselves and their pets. So, sometimes small donations can make a huge difference because those items ensure that all families can keep their dogs.
“I talked to a dog owner that was experiencing financial hardship. She said with the cost of groceries, gas, and utilities going up, money is tight. She mentioned that the cost of her dog’s food has almost doubled in price since the Covid pandemic started. This has led to her cutting back on the quality of food, toys, and getting vet care for her dog,” Humane Society of Carroll County wrote.
Helping a Dog Lover Get Back on Her Feet
Luckily, the Humane Society of Carroll County was able to provide dog food to the struggling dog owner. The woman lives close to the humane society, so she’s able to pick up food there when she needs it. Now that she doesn’t have to spend money on food, she’s able to save more money for other areas of her dog’s care, such as medical needs.
Not only does the shelter have lots of dogs to care for, but they also want to support the community as much as possible. So, when people like this dog parent need assistance, they do what they can to help. Donations from the GOODS Program support that mission.
“We have been experiencing such a high demand for pet supplies in our area that our shelter has often been out of donations to give. This shipment of pet food has filled our empty pet pantry and has helped us feed many dogs and cats in our community. It has also helped many families keep their animals and not have to owner surrender due to their inability to buy food,” Humane Society of Carroll County wrote.
Every time you buy products from the iHeartDogs store, you’re helping pets and humans alike. So, thank you to all the heroes who have done some shopping to make an impact!
