Abby, a young puppy, and her eight siblings were rescued from a shelter in Tennessee and brought to New York to find their forever homes. Abby, the only girl in the litter, had to hold her own among her brothers. After arriving in New York, the puppies contracted parvo, a highly contagious and often fatal virus. Abby was very sick, but she proved to be a fighter and eventually recovered.
A group of school kids fostered the litter, as well as the other puppies rescued from Tennessee. Twenty-six of them have since been adopted. Abby’s journey to find a forever home began with her time at the school and continued when she moved to a foster home. The goal was to find the best home for her to live in for the rest of her life.
One day, Abby and some of her brothers appeared on a website, and a woman fell in love with her. Her husband also became enamored with Abby, recognizing her as a fighter and the perfect dog for their family. They arranged for Abby to visit their home to see if she would get along with their current dog, Slade.
At first, Abby was a little intimidated, but once they got into the backyard, she began to relax. The family let Slade lead Abby into the house, and the two dogs quickly hit it off. They played together, and Abby warmed up to her new family, giving them kisses and enjoying the company of the children.
Once the adoption papers were signed, Abby officially became a part of her new family. The joy and happiness she brought to her new home were immeasurable, and she quickly became an integral part of the family. Abby’s story highlights the importance of animal adoption, as she and the other rescue puppies now have loving families to call their own.
