Whereas the American Pitbull Terrier has a playful nature with anyone including visitors, only if trained well of course.
The Rottweiler is larger than the American Pitbull Terrier(APTB) and this size can be a negative side effect as it tends to have health problems.
While Rottweiler has a Protective, Loyal and confident personality.
The American Pitbull Terrier has an affectionate, agile, and loyal countenance.
The American Pitbull Terrier is an agile dog that was bred for energy, and work. Having the tendency to work long hours non-stop.
Whereas the energy level of the Rottweiler is within average level but below that of the Pitbull Terrier.
The American Pitbull Terrier tends to have a longer lifespan of 12-16 years.
While the Rottweiler has a lower lifespan of 9-10 years.
Rottweiler weighs more at around 80 – 135 pounds while the American Pitbull terrier weighs less at around 30 – 65 pounds.
Male dogs tend to weigh more than females.
Rottweiler is also taller by a height of 22 – 27 inches
Whereas Pitbull’s height is around 17 – 21 inches.
The health of the Rottweiler is well within average. Due to its size and height, it falls short of certain health issues.
The American Pitbull Terrier dog is well above average in his health condition.

The price of Rottweiler in the USA is $1500 and upwards, they cost more than the American Pitbull Terrier.
Whereas the price of the American Pitbull Terrier is $800 and above.

Let’s begin with the Rottweiler.
History of Rottweiler
We can trace the history of the Rottweiler back to the Roman empire regime and this implies that they are one of the oldest recorded dog breeds in the world.
This dog breed according to science is believed to have descended from the lineage of the ancient Mastiff-type dogs.
The Rottweiler was bred with the sole purpose of herding cattle alongside armies.
Their duty was also to guard and protect cattle from thieves, robbers, and wild animals.
They were traveling butchers back in those days in a certain town called Rottweil specifically in Germany.

These butchers were so impressed with the Rottweiler guarding ability and aggressive nature that they decided to use them to protect their resources (money and valuables) as well.
They would tie their money and valuables around the Rottweiler’s neck with confidence that no one would steal it.
This breed got its name from the Rottweil town in Germany – it was commonly known as Rottweiler Metzgerhund in Germany which means ‘Rottweiler Butcher dog’ in English.
The Rottweiler was then used for several other purposes such as moving heavy objects on farms and homes and in protective services especially.
The Rottweiler was commonly used as a Germany Police dog even till this day.
In this modern-day, Rottweiler has been adopted into homes as a great family pet. It was ranked the 8th most popular dog breed in America by the American Kennel Club. A well-deserved position out of 193 other recognizable breeds of dogs worldwide.
In addition, Rottweiler has been mixed with other pure breeds of dogs like the Rottie-labrador mix.
Now let’s talk about the history of the American Pitbull terrier.
History of Pitbull
The Pitbull isn’t really a breed but a descendant of Terriers and Bulldogs lineage.
We have four breeds of Pitbulls.
The American Pitbull Terrier, American Bully, American Staffordshire terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
Pitbulls are energetic dogs bred for fighting a long time ago until fighting became outlawed.

Pitbull were bred for herding and exercising and they also make great companion dogs.
The American Pitbull Terrier is considered to be vicious and a dog that has a bad reputation for violence and aggressiveness, but such is not the case.
We really don’t know the popularity of the American Pitbull terrier because it hasn’t been recorded by the American Kennel Club, however, this breed of dog is greatly popular in America.
Both the American Pitbull Terrier and Rottweiler are greatly different in appearance.
The only similarity they have is the bad reputation mentality that humans have of them
The Rottweiler is obviously taller 24 – 27 inches tall whereas the American Pitbull terrier is just about 18-21 inches tall.
The Rottweiler is so much heavier than the American Pitbull terrier
Weighing 135pounds whereas the American Pitbull terrier weighs just about 65 pounds.
This is almost twice the size of the American Pitbull terrier.
The American Pitbull terrier is also leaner in comparison to the Rottweiler.
The Rottweiler has a distinctive black and tan color and there’s a rust color over his eyebrows, snout, chest, and legs.
The American Pitbull terrier has an array of colors from blue, red, grey, white, and brindle colors.
Rottweiler and American Pitbull Terrier have short coats, the Rott has a slightly longer and softer coat than the APBT.
With both having straight and shiny coats.

Both breeds make great family pets as they enjoy cuddling and snuggle time with their owners.
The APBT tends to be more playful and loving than the Rottweiler.

The Rottweiler spends some time on patrol duty, monitoring his environment and being on the lookout for strangers.

The American Pitbull terrier makes the worst guard dog ever.
They are friendly and playful and would joyfully invite strangers into your home and play with them.
A similar breed that makes terrible guard dogs are the Golden Retriever.
The Golden Retriever is considered a great dog for first-time dog owners.
The American Pitbull terrier can feel great sadness and separation anxiety if you don’t spare some time to play with them.
All the Rottweiler needs are his toys and a little cuddle and that’s all.
The Rottweiler can be alone and on patrol for hours without needing a cuddle or snuggle.
If you need a dog who loves to play then the APBT is what you need.
They are great with children as well.

The APBT dog is considered a fighting dog, it was bred for that purpose.
Police have recorded instances where criminals used APBTs to guard their drug hoards and even used them to assault police officers on patrol.
This APBT dog was trained by his owner to be aggressive and to carry out dirty criminalistic duties.
And so yes, an APBT can be very aggressive and dangerous in the wrong hands.
As a result of this, many states in USA and countries have adopted the Breed Specific Legislation (BSL). Both the Rottweiler and APBT have tendencies to be very aggressive and so these laws apply to owners of this dog breed.
The average exercise time for both Rottweiler and APBT is 60minutes.
They are both energetic and agile and so require intense exercise, especially the APBT because they are more energetic.
The APBT loves to play fight with his owner, loves to play frisbee ball, or any agility exercise such as biking, running, jogging, jumping, etc.
Make sure to supervise your children while they are playing with these dogs because they are strong and powerful dogs.
As earlier said, the bite force of the Rottweiler is more powerful than that of the American Pitbull terrier because its bite is said to tear the flesh off and cause serious fractures and injuries.
The bite force of the American Pitbull Terrier is said to be around 235pounds of pressure
Whereas the bite force of the Rottweiler is said to be around 328 pounds of pressure.
Do not abandon these dogs for long, they will become destructive if you do. They need companionship and playtime.
So consider looking for another breed like the Golden Retriever if you can’t take them out for daily exercise.
And if you’re the lazy type who can’t spend time with these dogs then get ready for a lot of repairs because these dogs are strong and can cause a significant amount of damage to your home.
Both Rottweiler and American Pitbull terrier dogs are intelligent, their training requires that they should be mentally and physically stimulated.
The Rottweiler and APBT are easy to train by their master because they desire to serve and please.
Make sure to get them acquainted and socialize with them at an early age.
Especially the Rottweiler because it has a guardian attribute.
And both dog breeds aren’t fond of other dogs, they tend to lash out when confronted by other dogs.
And so it is important that you train them properly at an early age so they become sweet and loving dogs all around.
Positive Reinforcement Training:
Always use positive reinforcement techniques to train your dog, never shout at them, never force them, never beat them, always use hand signals, hand movements, and eye contact, and always reward them with treats once they pass any tests. This is greatly essential.
As earlier mentioned, APBT is healthier than Rottweiler and thus tends to live longer.
Rottweiler’s lifespan is around 9-10 years at best while APBT lives for 12-16 years at best.
Some health concerns that affect APBT are Hip Dysplasia, Cerebellar Albiotrophy.
Hip Dysplasia is a pain in the hip joint that can lead to crippling tendencies and arthritis if not properly treated.
Another health concern that affects APBT is Cerebellar Abiotrophy
This happens when the organ of the brain that controls its balance and coordinates movement is damaged and hence cannot stand or move.
The Rottweiler also suffers the same fate of Hip Dysplasia including Elbow Dysplasia.
Rottweiler also commonly suffers from a disease called Dilated Cardiomyopathy,
This happens when the heart of the Rottweiler becomes thinner and dilated heart walls and thus its heart cannot function properly resulting in heart failures.
In addition to that Rottweiler also suffers from Subvalvular Aortic Stenosis
This is a condition that results in blockage of blood flow.
Other aimlents of the Rottweiler is Osteosarcoma, Bloat, and Lymphoma.
Rottweilers tend to eat more food than the American Pitbull terrier
The Rottweiler has less metabolism and so they must not overeat because they have the tendency to suffer from obesity.
The APBT has a higher metabolism rate and so it is less likely for it to put on weight.
APBT is very easy to care for in terms of grooming.
All you need to do is brush it once a week, and bathe it once or twice in 2 months.
Rottweiler needs more grooming, you would need to brush them once a week, and bathe them every 6 weeks. This will ensure their skin is healthy and shiny.
