Greta shares the heartwarming story of her rescue puppy, Meira, who she loves to pieces. Meira was part of a litter of nine puppies abandoned in a house, along with their mother and four other dogs. The owners of the house were suspected of running a puppy mill, and the dogs were found in terrible condition. Meira’s mother still nursed her babies on demand despite not having enough food for herself.
Greta first saw a post on the Facebook page of Pit Squad Rescue, which featured a picture of Meira and her eight siblings. When Greta went to meet the puppies, Meira immediately crawled into her lap and fell asleep, sealing the deal for Greta to adopt her.
Meira has since grown into a loving and playful dog with a sassy personality and a penchant for communicating with her humans. Meira used to throw temper tantrums when her mom didn’t understand what she wanted, so Greta bought her talking buttons to help her communicate. Meira has learned to use 12 different buttons to express herself, including a “mom” button that she presses multiple times when Greta is away.
Greta and Meira have formed a strong bond, with Greta spending the most time training and caring for her. Meira is often referred to as a “Velcro dog” because she follows Greta everywhere and hates being apart from her. To keep Meira entertained and happy, Greta takes her on at least two walks a day and includes her in various activities.
One of Meira’s favorite pastimes is playing with her stuffed toys, which often require “surgery” to repair the damage the pup accidentally causes with her playful energy. Greta has even set up an “ICU” for the toys, where she performs the necessary repairs. Meira, being the caring dog that she is, watches the entire process and cries, showing concern for her toys’ well-being.
Greta expresses her gratitude for having Meira in her life, saying that the rescue dog has made her hard days easier and always knows how to put a smile on her face. Meira’s story is a reminder of how important it is to give shelter animals a second chance. They need us!
